Committed to RFID and IoT Innovations

The new Tageos Innovation Center of Excellence (ICoE) opened in Munich, Germany, at the beginning of April 2025. It’s the company’s response to strong customer and market demand for innovative product development and new applications in RAIN RFID, HF/NFC and the wireless Internet of Things.

Tageos’ ICoE Opens Its Doors

On April 3rd, 2025, Tageos welcomed over 180 guests, including customers and market partners from around the world, to the official opening of its new Innovation Center of Excellence in Hallbergmoos, near Munich, Germany. Guests included Dr. Florian Herrmann (Bavarian State Minister for Federal Affairs and Media and Head of the State Chancellery), Marco Nespolo (CEO Fedrigoni Group), Benjamin Henn (First Mayor Hallbergmoos), Francois Veron (Newfund Capital) and Andreas Wißmeier (Managing Director Rock Capital Group).

Attendees enjoyed the traditional Bavarian atmosphere while spending the day together. The program included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music and ICoE demo tours, providing insights into the various areas of innovation.

A Hub for Technological Advancement

Located in one of Europe’s most vibrant technology ecosystems, the ICoE represents a multi-million Euro investment and adds over 700 square meters of dedicated R&D and meeting space. The center is focused on specialty and custom products including emerging technologies such as Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), printed antennas, and the integration of flexible batteries and sensors. With approximately 15 specialists on site, the center significantly strengthens Tageos' global innovation capabilities.

In his speech, Matthieu Picon, CEO of Tageos, emphasized that product innovation and quality are key to the company’s success. Tageos has expanded its global presence and sales significantly in recent years, and its products are among the most innovative and highest quality in the RFID market. He also acknowledged that standing still in the fast-paced world of technology is like moving backwards. “We must constantly evolve, adapt and innovate to remain competitive. Our new Tageos Innovation Center of Excellence is our commitment to this principle. Here, we will push boundaries, challenge conventions and transform revolutionary ideas into tangible products. It is also the next logical step in our vision for Tageos, enabling us to expand our capabilities, technology and product portfolio. The ICoE is not just a new building or a lab with state-of-the-art equipment, it is a catalyst for growth."

Engineering-as-a-Service

In addition to serving as a technology innovation hub, the ICoE offers Engineering-as-a-Service (EaaS) capabilities. These provide comprehensive support to help customers and partners worldwide further optimize their product requirements, both technically and commercially. They can also use EaaS to prototype and industrialize new products. Tageos' highly skilled and experienced teams can design, build and test final items in smaller quantities. Large-scale volumes will be seamlessly transferred to the company’s high-quality, certified facilities in France, the US and China, which have an annual production capacity of more than 11 billion units today. Additional EaaS offerings include project consulting, application engineering, technical process optimization, and programming and implementation support to ensure the best technical and business fit.

Supporting Customer Requirements and Latest Market Trends

The new ICoE also offers comprehensive testing and advanced support services to help customers scale up their production processes for the mass manufacture of RFID-enabled labels and other types of connected items with embedded inlays. This service can be provided in small batches to fine-tune manufacturing parameters for mass production.

As more and more industries adopt RFID technology to solve operational challenges, the demand for a variety of form factors and materials has grown significantly. Printed antennas, for example, represent a breakthrough innovation, enabling production of ultra-thin, flexible, cost-effective and sustainable RFID inlays for smart packaging and smart labels.

Successful Together

“As the majority shareholder of Tageos, we are excited to celebrate the opening of this new, state-of-the-art R&D facility as a symbol of our combined strengths and leadership in driving groundbreaking innovations. RFID is highly strategic for Fedrigoni, which exploits every possible synergy with its two businesses of self-adhesive label materials and specialty papers for packaging, creative communication and technical applications. The industries we serve - from luxury, to pharmaceutical, from wine & spirits, to food, from beauty to FMCG - are in fact looking more and more for innovations to enable authentication, brand protection, traceability, as well as customer experience for their products and packaging,” said Marco Nespolo, CEO, Fedrigoni Group
