Leading Argentinian maker of surgical implants and prostheses Promedon has chosen Tageos’ breakthrough RFID technology to boost efficiency and accuracy as it ships and receives specific surgical products, ordered by medical establishments, all over the world.
Thanks to Tageos’ passive UHF RFID labels, Promedon has overcome major challenges in inventory management, guaranteeing valuable surgical shipments are tracked accurately.
Tageos labels provide the right RFID solution
Promedon supplies medical institutions from around the world with medical implants and prostheses, of various sizes and shapes. Each order responds to the need of each individual patient. Promedon sends the hospital the specific kit, and the surgeon then uses suitable items from the kit during the operation. All unused items in the kit are then returned to Promedon.
But reducing mistakes in the preparation of the kits for surgery, and keeping a close eye on goods as they are shipped – and then later potentially returned – have proved to be major challenges for Promedon. Until now.
Installed in August 2012, the Tageos passive UHF RFID label solution has beaten all of Promedon’s challenges. The RFID solution keeps an accurate track on all items in the kits, as they travel from the warehouse, to the hospital, and potentially back again to Promedon’s warehouse.
Because of the large amount of products used in each surgery, the challenge was to reduce the amount of mistakes in the surgery preparations, to have a low rate of discrepancy between the order and what really is shipped. Matías Montané, Director of Operations and Services, Promedon
Each new item to arrive at the Promedon warehouse receives a Tageos label on its packaging. Xerafy Metal Skin tags are used for products composed mostly of metal.
The staff is very comfortable using the system, because we worked together with them on the creation and implementation of it. We can say it was tailor-made for our company. Matías Montané
After surgery is finished, the hospital returns any unused products to Promedon’s warehouse. Here, workers receive the goods by reading their RFID labels, which allows them to swiftly and accurately invoice the hospital.
With the Tageos RFID label solution in place, Promedon is enjoying a range of clear benefits. The staff no longer needs to manually check each order; and automation provided by RFID has dramatically cut the time spent on each order, not only during shipping but also when unused goods are returned to the warehouse.
And bringing true value to managing stocks, the solution provides Promedon with a 24/7 snapshot of its inventory. At any time, Promedon can use the RFID solution to see: which goods are being shipped; which have been returned; plus a precise view of stock levels. A quick look is all that’s needed to see if any products need reordering.
