Initially tested in 50 restaurants in 2011, table service has been gradually deployed by McDonald’s France since 2012.
Thanks to this service, the customer is served directly at his table. The menu is ordered on an interactive kiosk following which the customer indicates on the screen the area in the restaurant he intends to sit. The crew member then delivers the meal to the customer at the selected location.
In an effort to continuously optimize this solution, while also improving customer satisfaction, McDonald’s France contacted Frequentiel in August 2015, who specializes in the integration of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solutions. Frequentiel, together with its partners Impinj, a supplier of RFID readers, and Tageos, a supplier of RFID labels, put forward an innovative and efficient solution.
The solution provided by Frequentiel and its partners makes it easier to find the customer seated in the restaurant, by geo-localizing him. With this solution, the customer no longer needs to select the area where he intends to sit. Now when the customer completes his order on the interactive kiosk, he is simply asked to take an RFID card and to scan it. Then he can go and sit at the table of his choice.
As soon as the order is ready, the McDonald’s crew member visualizes the customer’s location on the touchscreen located at the counter, in front of the kitchen. Geo-localizing the customer at the table is made possible by Impinj RFID readers hidden in the ceiling, which detect the customer’s Tageos RFID card.
The OCTO + software published by Frequentiel processes the data collected by the RFID readers and calculates the position of the customer. The crew member can immediately see on the screen where the customer is seated and can quickly serve him his meal without having to look for him. The RFID Table Service (SAT RFID) solution is intuitive.
The SAT RFID solution facilitates the day-to-day work of restaurant staff, especially during peak periods.
Impinj President and COO, Eric Brodersen explained: “Working with McDonald’s France and our valued Partners Frequentiel and Tageos has been exciting because of the company’s intense focus on quality, convenience and service. We’ve been pleased by the high-performance of the solution; customers receive their orders faster; employees can find customer’s tables more easily and McDonald’s France benefits from increased productivity and the ability to serve more customers.”
Eric Sadier, Director of Operations, McDonald’s France added: “We were impressed by the immediate benefits of the RFID SAT solution provided by Frequentiel, Impinj and Tageos. It allows us to reinvent table service and improve the restaurant experience of our customers.”
The SAT RFID solution has already been installed in over 100 McDonald’s restaurants in France.
